Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone
Begins Season 2 Tonight 6/25/20
Tonight starts the second season of The Twilight Zone premiering on CBS All Access. In April of 2019, Jordan Peele (Get Out, Keanu, BlacKkKlansman), Simon Kinberg (Logan, Fantastic Four), and Marco Ramirez (The Defenders, Orange is the New Black) sought to bring back the magic of Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, including hiding Easter eggs in all 10 episodes.
Peele’s The Twilight Zone maintains the 1959 format by continuing to explore the strangeness of the modern world by creating thought-provoking and spine-tingling experiences for viewers. There is a moral in every story. Peele serves as narrator, in addition to Executive Producer, through Monkeypaw Productions. The series is filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia.
“You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s the signpost up ahead— your next stop, the Twilight Zone!”
One of the main departures from the original series was the runtime for episodes. Serling’s original tales averaged 30 minutes, whereas Peele’s episodes run more to 45 or 50 minutes.
What made The Twilight Zone timeless was that the stories revealed their lesson from beginning to end in a short period of time, which allowed for a more significant impact.
With that being said, Peele does an admirable job translating life lessons into modern parables. Surrounding himself with amazing writers helps as well, including Rod Serling himself.
