Rainbow Six Siege’s Dev Team plans on making their game go Free-To-Play in the future, yikes…
Recently, PC Gamer interviewed Game Director Leroy Athanassoff at the Invitational 2020. During which Leroy said “It’s a company decision. I think on the development team we want that at some point. We want the game to be accessible to everyone,”.
He also goes on to say “You need certain features ready to be a good and successful free-to-play game”. Afterwhich he followed with one of the features being a solution to “Smurfing“…
Smurfs aren’t the issue…
If you are a Avid Rainbow Six Siege player, you would know that smurfing is only a problem for those stuck in Copper, Bronze, or Silver. Hackers and Griefers should be fixed above all.
Also, if you want to stop people from smurfing, why make the game Free-To-Play? That is the complete opposite of getting rid of Smurfs, you are making it easier for them hop back in.
(Note: Hacking on Console is extremely hard, therefore most people wouldn’t even try it.)
In order to Smurf at the moment, you need to pay a minimum of $19.99 (Which is the Base Edition). It’s even cheaper than that most of the time because the game is constantly on sale.
Rainbow Six Siege Sales…
The sale happens every other month, which means you can wait and pay $10 for the “Deluxe Edition”. That edition gives you all of the Year 1 Operators, and the Original operators are dirt cheap to buy.
I’m not cool with smurfing, but if i had to choose between a Smurf, Hacker, or Griefer, it would definetly be the Smurf. I can not tell you how many times i’ve been griefed by cry baby teammates over the smallest inconvenience.
If you have the right communication, smurfs have nothing on your team. Pre-firing, Good Cameras, and Voice Chat are the keys you need to beat anyone.
I’ve hit Platinum twice with these key tips in mind, rarely has a Smurf stopped my climb in solo queue. Believe or not, fighting smurfs will make you a better player overtime. We will touch on more of that subject in another article.
